Selvedge Yarn Feeders – The Right Solution for Every Application

Perfect Fabric Selvedges Start with the Right Yarn Tension

When manufacturing technical and particularly dense fabrics, such as airbags, filter fabrics or other demanding applications, the tension conditions in the selvedge area can differ significantly from those in the rest of the fabric.

The result is often loose, unstable or wavy fabric selvedges – commonly referred to as selvedge waviness or a “floppy selvedge.” This effect can be particularly pronounced in wide fabrics, potentially affecting both fabric quality and subsequent processing.

Targeted Selvedge Yarn Tension for Stable Fabric Selvedges

This is where selvedge yarn feeders come into play. They provide controlled feeding of the selvedge yarns, ensuring that selvedge yarn tension can be precisely adjusted and maintained consistently throughout the entire weaving process.

The tension can be adapted to the specific fabric type, weaving construction and production speed. This results in a more uniform and stable fabric selvedge – an important prerequisite for a reliable weaving process and consistent, reproducible product quality.

Benefits That Extend Beyond the Weaving Process

A stable fabric selvedge has a positive impact not only on the weaving process. It can also provide significant advantages during subsequent production steps.

During unwinding, winding, finishing and converting, wavy or loose selvedges can cause problems. Particularly during winding, there is a risk of fabric bunching, creasing and uneven winding quality.

Controlled selvedge yarn tension, on the other hand, supports consistent material guidance and facilitates further processing of the fabric.

Key Benefits

  • Reduction or prevention of selvedge waviness
  • Stable and uniform fabric selvedges
  • Consistent selvedge yarn tension throughout the entire production process
  • High process reliability and reproducibility
  • Reduction of fabric bunching and creasing during winding
  • Improved downstream processing during finishing and converting
  • Consistent fabric quality throughout the entire production length

The Right Solution for Every Application

Not every weaving machine and application has the same requirements. That is why we offer different selvedge yarn feeders and mounting concepts – from precisely controlled solutions with comprehensive monitoring functions to simple and cost-effective variants.

Two Systems – One Goal: Perfect Fabric Selvedges

Whether precisely and comprehensively controlled or simple, robust and cost-effective – with the LT3 and SOLEX, the right solution is available for a wide range of requirements. Both systems pursue the same goal: controlled selvedge yarn tension, stable fabric selvedges and a reliable production process.

Our selvedge yarn feeders therefore not only support quality during weaving, but also create optimal conditions for downstream processes and efficient further processing of the fabric.

SELVEDGE YARN FEEDER LT3

Precision and Control for Demanding Applications

The LT3 selvedge yarn feeder was developed for precise, consistent and reproducible selvedge yarn tension on wide-width weaving machines.

A powerful BLDC motor, combined with intelligent motor control, enables dynamic and reliable regulation of yarn tension.

The integrated touchscreen display serves as the central operating and monitoring unit. Setpoints and actual values for selvedge yarn tension, as well as relevant process parameters such as motor speed and operating status, are clearly displayed.

The selvedge yarn tension of the entire yarn sheet is measured using a load cell. This allows the tension to be precisely monitored and controlled according to production requirements.

The LT3 is particularly suitable for applications with high demands on precision, process reliability and reproducibility.

SELVEDGE YARN FEEDER SOLEX

Simple. Robust. Cost-Effective.

The SOLEX selvedge yarn feeder is designed as a simple and reliable dancer system. The desired yarn tension is set mechanically using a spring.

The speed setpoint is transmitted via a 0–10 V analog signal to a downstream power unit or frequency inverter. This allows the SOLEX to focus on the essential functions required for reliable selvedge yarn feeding.

Unnecessary controls and complex functions have deliberately been omitted. The result is a straightforward, robust and cost-efficient solution for reliable selvedge yarn feeding.

Key Features

  • Easy adjustment of selvedge yarn tension using a spring
  • Simple and intuitive operation
  • Consistent selvedge yarn tension throughout the entire production process
  • Tension monitoring via a linear proximity sensor
  • LED indication in the event of tension deviations
  • Robust and cost-effective design
  • Ideal for applications where reliability and ease of operation are the primary requirements

Tension Monitoring with a Linear Proximity Sensor

Warp tension is monitored using a linear proximity sensor mounted on a dancer. An LED indicator provides information about tension deviations.
